Kindergarten "News, Arts & Crafts"

Updated: May 22, 2022

March 2022 | Kindergarten Teachers: Ms. Ericka & Ms.Shanna

For Women's month we are learning about Alma Thomas. We are creating our own version of her art work. According to the National Museum of the Women in the Arts, “Alma Thomas began a 35 year career teaching art in high school. A devoted art teacher to her students. She assembled art clubs, lectures and student exhibitions for her students. She was the first African American woman to have a solo exhibition at New York’s Whitney Museum of American Art, and she exhibited her paintings at the White House three times."

Arts & Crafts on Wednesday.

The class has been working on Woodcraft pieces.

From Ms. Colón

"The woodcrafts class is geared toward having kids develop their ability to be creative with the materials they have available. It also helps them to focus, plan and think about what they really want to accomplish. It allows them to interact with their friends, work together on projects as partners and share ideas. It also helps them to develop their self-esteem giving them the opportunity to be creative and share what they made. Take a look at some of their creations!"
